Carla Sophie Gascon talks about the two years of preparation that went into this demanding role in Jacques Audiard's film, and the two extremes of her own personality that she had to play as Emily and Manita. Jacques Audiard said that the idea for the musical was inspired by a chapter in a novel about a drug dealer who wants to change his identity.

A very well-made film with a cool unique story
Dalmais), Clement Dicol and Jacques Audiard Performed by Zoe Saldana. I'm not usually a fan of musicals, but this didn't feel like a traditional musical to me. Great performances from the leads, but Selena Gomez was the weakest part of the movie.
It's painfully obvious that she doesn't actually speak Spanish
The leads gave great, gentle performances that were almost undone by Gomez's very wild performance. It's a shame the filmmakers decided to push Gomez for her "star power" instead of giving the role to a deserving Latina actress. Otherwise, the movie is very worthwhile due to its very unique plot and a wonderful performance by Zoe Saldaña.
